Community Engagement & Initiatives

We love living in Western North Carolina and are honored to be directly involved in various community opportunities, connecting us to our neighbors and the local people working diligently to create healthy living options for those they serve.

Buncombe County Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels WNC

Recently we partnered with the Buncombe County's Meals on Wheels program to provide organic produce to their seniors evening meals. During 2020 alone we were able to supply our local area food pantry's with over 20,000 lbs of organic produce.

Through the Meals on Wheels of America Make Good Go Further grant, our seniors have been receiving produce bags from fourth-generation locally owned Wildwood Herbal Farm located just outside of Weaverville. Seniors have enjoyed fresh romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, radishes, green beans, turnips, and mustard greens along with a variety of fruits!

The local connection that Wildwood Herbal has with the Buncombe Meals on Wheels program will continue into 2022 thanks to the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP).  This supports healthy diets for seniors, particularly those high in local organic fruits and vegetables. These contribute to our senior community getting the access to fresh and available produce.

Council of Aging in Buncombe County

County of Aging Buncombe County

To improve overall health, safety and well-being, we will work with local farms to source CSA food boxes appropriate for seniors with Wildwood Herbal and provide nutrition programming and opportunities to garden.

We are so excited to work alongside our community initiative members. The partnership with COAbc allows us to grow and provide organic 'baby vegetables' that are easy to cook or eat raw. This supports the mission wherer COAbc focuses on elder care and the nexus of Age Friendly/Dementia Friendly principles.
